EVO VIII Partial Dash Removal
This article will illustrate the removal of dash pieces, including the radio, through to and including the middle vent surround and the dash gauge cluster. I am not a fan of using screwdrivers to pry out panels because you will likely scratch or dent the plastic panels. These directions will enable you to remove everything, as long as you are patient, without needing to pry anything out.

Removal Steps: (In Order)
1. Panel Below Steering Wheel
2. Gauge Cluster Surround
3. ACD/Mirror Control Bezel
4. Stereo Surround (to replace your stereo start here)
5. Center Vent Surround

Tools Needed:
- Phillips Screw Driver
- 10mm Socket Wrench
- Needle Noise Pliers
- Small Flashlight

Panel Below Steering Wheel:
Lay on the drivers side floor and look under the left side of the panel. Reach to the back side of the dimmer/HID adjustment switch and disconnect it. Next, disconnect the white rectangular plug that runs up over the panel and into the dash circuit box. This connection is tight and you may need to wiggle it out a little before you can hold down the tab. Use the Needle Noise Pliers to pinch and release the 2 cable guide connections. Use your 10mm Socket Wrench to remove the fuse box connection bolt.

Remove the 2 Phillips screws behind the hood latch handle and the 2 Phillips screws located at the base of the panel then pull the panel away from the dash. There are 3 clips holding the panel to the dash.

Gauge Cluster Surround:
Remove the 2 Phillips screws at the top of the Gauge Cluster Surround. The next step is a little tricky and small hands work best here. There are two clips holding the bottom edge of the Cluster Surround. These clips are not the type that you can just pull out. They use a tab that you will want to push up to release. You will need to reach behind the steering wheel to push up these tabs with a screw driver or your finger. The left side is much easier to release than the right. The right side will take some patience. I prefer this method over removing the cover surrounding the actual steering column but if you run into problems, you may need to remove it first.

This is what you are left with. You should be able to remove the gauge cover and gauge cluster from here. I have not attempted this so I do not know if there are any clips but it looks like there are only 3 screws.

ACD/Mirror Control Bezel:
To remove the ACD/Mirror Control Bezel simply pull it off. It is held by only two clips.

Stereo Surround:
The Stereo Surround is held on by 6 clips and 2 screws. First pull off the knobs to the AC/Heater control unit. Remove the 2 screws attached to the heater and position controls. Open the glove box. You can reach the far right clip from inside the glove box opening. Press this clip all of the way out. This will enable you to work your way from right to left to pull off the stereo surround from the front. Be VERY careful not to pull the right side out too far or you will make the left clip bind and then you will be stuck pulling the whole thing out under a lot more force and could risk breaking it. If you work slowly, you should be fine. Be careful working around the AC/Heater control unit because the control shafts are a little weak and the whole unit floats around in place.

To remove the stereo, you just need to remove 4 Phillips screws and then pull it out.

Center Vent Surround:
Remove the 2 screws above the radio. Carefully pull the panel, attached by 11 clips, away from the dash - working from the left side to the right.
